Jonathan Ng
Jonathan is a final year Commerce and Engineering student majoring in
Information Technology Engineering, Investment Finance and Information
Management. His project with OBEL includes the implementation of a
semi-automatic image processing method for detecting contours of the human
upper airway. In his spare time he enjoys playing golf, watching the footy,
going out for meals and having drinks with friends. He has a keen interest in
travelling. Countries he has visited include USA, France, Greece, England,
Japan, Singapore and Malaysia.

Gemma Hamilton
Gemma is completing her final year of a double degree majoring in physics
and electrical engineering. After completing honours in physics in 2002 she
decided to continue with the Frequency Standards and Metrology (FSM) group
within the Physics department for her engineering honours. To keep the
engineering aspect of her project on track, she has been ‘adopted’ as an OBEL
student. Gemma's project involves development of an ultra-stable
microwave oscillator at liquid helium temperature (4K). Interests include
mountain bike riding, water sports, playing the piano, drinking beer/coffee
and reading.

Jennifer Hubble
Jennifer is a final year Biomedical Engineering student majoring in
Electrical & Electronic Engineering and Pharmacology. Her project investigates
the dynamics of optical contrast agents used to improve image contrast and
depth of penetration into biological tissue. She is studying various optical
imaging techniques in conjunction with this. Her personal interests include
playing both the violin and flute, writing science fiction and fantasy, and
reading.

Hannah Joyce
Hannah is studying Engineering/Science and majoring in electrical and
electronic engineering and pharmacology. Her project aims to model diffuse
reflectance spectroscopy of inhomogenous early stage melanoma. Hannah enjoys
spending time with friends (tea breaks, going out for dinner, picnics,
sleepovers, eating icecream), playing the piano, running and swimming at the
beach. Her favourite animals include elephants and budgies.

Ian McKerracher
Ian's project aims to develop an ultra-broad bandwidth OCT system, which
will enable OBEL to capture images with greater depth resolution (<10um).He
completed his pharmacology degree last year and is now in his final year of the
BSc (Biomedical)/BE degree. In his (little) spare time, Ian plays
Ultimate Frisbee (http://waultimate.com) and is also interested in hockey,
playing/listening to music and sleeping in. At uni, Ian enjoys finding novel
sources of caffeine.

Robert McPherson
Robert is a Science/Engineering student majoring in Physiology and
Electronic Engineering, his project involves measuring the optical parameters
of animal tissues. When not sitting in a lab furiously slaving away at
his next 50 deadlines Robert enjoys playing sport, going to the gym to get
massive and sampling some of the finest boutique beers namely Emu Bitter and
Carlton Draught.

Boon (Noah) Pin Ong
Noah is a final year Science/Engineering student majoring in Physics, Pure
Math and Electrical & Electronic Engineering. He is working to improve and
adapt the sample arm of OBEL's portable OCT system for clinical applications.
His interests include running, rock climbing and mountain biking. He
also enjoys habitually chugging caffeine of all forms.

Abbey Trewenack
Abbey is in her final year of a double degree in Computer and Mathematical
Sciences and Engineering, majoring in Electrical & Electronic, Pure Maths and
IT Systems. Her project is to design and implement software for OBEL's Fourier
Holographic Optical Scatter Imaging system. Outside of uni she enjoys
cooking, travel (or dreaming about it anyway), ballet and following Formula
One.

Ryan Winters
Ryan is a fifth year Commerce/Engineering student. He is majoring in IT,
Accounting and Corporate Finance. His project topic is on investigating
whether 3D images can be created using the OBEL group's portable Optical
Coherence Tomography (OCT) system. * He currently spends his spare time
playing basketball or hockey, at the pub or making sure all his work appears
to be done.
