Final Year Students 2003

Fiona Taylor

Fiona is in her final year of Science/Engineering, majoring in Electrical and Electronic Engineering and Physiology/Neuroscience. Her project will focus on characterising noise sources and improving the SNR in the endoscopic OCT system. Fiona enjoys playing mixed netball and social squash, watching the cricket or footy, eating dinner at the foreshore and having a quiet drink with friends.

Oliver Fairhall

Oliver Fairhall is a final year engineering student majoring in electronics and communications. He is working with Julian Armstrong and Jonathon Tan on optimising OCT signal processing electronics. Efforts are likely to be focussed on OBEL's endoscopic system.

His interest in electronics started with a hobby in electronic music, for which he continues to design and build hardware, both for himself and small studios around Perth, on an occasional basis.

Oliver has worked in four cities throughout China, in both corporate and educational institutions, teaching English as a Foreign Language, and performing public liaison and promotional duties.

Oliver enjoys the creative design process, and would like to attain graduate employment which offers the capacity for development of both technical and managerial expertise.

Jonathan Tan

I'm in final year Science and Engineering, majoring in Physics for science and Electrical and Electronic Engineering for my B.E.

My project is to do with the analysis and testing of the OCT signal demodulation electronics and possibly to make improvements to the system.

My hobbies include music - guitar and keyboard, and sports. I train as an amateur boxer and also enjoy keeping fit.

Natasha Lam

Natasha is a final year Science and Engineering student majoring in Electrical/Electronic Engineering and Physiology. Her project with OBEL includes the investigation of the spectral reflectance of skin tumour models and determination of the sensitivity of optical characteristic changes induced by dysplasia and neoplasia. In her spare time, she enjoys playing netball, going to the gym, shopping and going out for dinner and coffee.

Yih-Pyng Lee

I'm in my final year of a double degree in Science and Engineering. My majors are Physiology and Electrical/Electronic Engineering. My final year Engineering Honor project is use Phase-contrast microscopy to investigate refractive-index variations in biological tissue. I plan to continue my studies by doing honors in neuroscience next year. In my spare time, I like to relax with a good book.

Fiona Franz

I'm in my final year(ish) of an Electrical Engineering degree majoring in electronics and control. Not sure about my project yet. Outside of uni I like doing art classes, seeing live alternative music (I'm a bit of a closet punk) and reading fantasy/sci-fi books. I'm a good cook and make spare cash warping the minds of high school students (tutoring).
